Devil’s Ledge

Max depth: 40m ++ / 130ft ++ General profile: 30m / 100ft for 15 min, remainder of the dive at 18m / 60ft

For the experienced diver and big fish lover, this is a must! Located at the southern side of the main passage to enter into the Vatulele lagoon, Devil’s ledge is a dive most divers dream about. A sheer wall drops away into the deep blue and when you get down to 30m, you will see huge gorgonian fans about another 30m deeper. As you approach the actual passage, the fish population increases and quickly you are surrounded by schools of horse eye jacks, red bass, midnight sea perch, fusiliers, giant sweet lips and orange socket surgeons. A large school of batfish usually hangs out on the wall while grey and white tip reef sharks swim leisurely along. A few large Maori wrasses live at the mouth of the passage where schools of juvenile barracuda swim in circles just waiting for a morsel of food. It is important to dive this site when conditions are right – calm seas, good visibility and the incoming tide. Currents can be very strong in this area.
